kjhicks01@gmail.comI am a 40 year old mother of two teen-aged boys and two cats.
I love listening to music while I'm doing something else, so I often miss out on the lyrics until I make a special effort to enjoy them. But Styx and Stones always speak to me.
I should make it clear that I'm also a bleading-heart liberal and have no tolerance for intolerance. My deepest heart-of-heart dream is to go work for the UN or some other aid organization. And maybe, since the kids are almost grown and I'm no longer encumbered with excess husbandly baggage, I may actually pursue this dream.
Added 11/2008 - I've been drawn to women's rights issues in the third world, and Nicholas Kristof's column in the NYTimes today has solidified my desire to be part of something bigger - to help women gain empowerment and make sure girls get the education they want and need.

I take great pride in my work, which I've come to late in my life. Being the afore-mentioned bleeding heart liberal that I am, I suppose it's ironic that I design and build weapons of war for the military, but that's just one more complexity in my life:)
I grew up in KCMO and had never lived anywhere else until I graduated from Engineering school 4 years ago and took a job in St Louis. Now, I'm thinking it might be fun to move somewhere else after the kids finish high school - I love the mountains and the desert. Since they're often conveniently located close to each other I may head to Colorado or New Mexico. We'll see; St Louis is growing on me:)
I love movies. And TV. And books. I often wonder if I shouldn't seek out my own adventures instead of watching and reading so much, but really, how would I ever be able to fight demons with Dean and Sam or fly through the air with Superman? Fiction is wonderful!
~ 'Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Add pepper to your mashed potatoes. Plant roses and lavender, for luck. Fall in love whenever you can.' - Alice Hoffman (Practical Magic)
